sorry to send part of this again - but i'm new to this site:

bought a used coleman laramie - here's the Q's

1. missing the ?tool (crank) to raise the roof - where to buy?

2. there are 2 places i think used to raise roof - which one to use?

3. raised the roof 4" now can't lower - i believe the small lever next to
the front/bottom of camper is used to release the ratchet.

4. where can i get a key to open the stair panel?

these are my 4 stupid Q's... more to follow

thanks Leon

I needed to get a new crank for our Fleetwood camper.  Had to travel 30 miles to a dealer to get one.  Now I have 2 cranks.  Advice- don't leave home without it.  One of my (hopefully rare) SPUT's.

Anyway, a dealer should be able to help with a new crank.  Make sure you have the make, model and year of your camper.  Other options...do an online search or contact the manufacturer directly.  I would think a dealer would be the quickest way, if not too far from you.

I'll have to leave the answers to 2, 3 and 4 up to someone else.

Well, then again, a dealer should be able to help with #4, talk to them about this when you go for #1.  By the stair panel, I assume you mean the lower portion of the door to the camper.  Our key has a code number printed on it.  I don't see a corresponding number on the lock itself.  I don't know if anything might be printed in the manual.  I can't check that, it's in the camper.  Wonder if the dealer can look up a key code number from referencing the VIN on the camper and cut a key from that.  Just throwing out thoughts here.  If they can't help, a locksmith should be able to cut a new key for you.  That may be a bit pricey, though.

Welcome to PUT.:)
The only stupid question is the one not asked.

You will need to go to a Fleetwood Folding camper dealer to get the crank.  There are about $15, I think.

My first PU had 2 places to crank.  The one in the front was higher and had the little wire catch.  That is the one I used.

Yes the little lever is used to release the lift system "lock".

You will need to get the key, to open the access door, at a Fleetwood Folding camper dealer (when you get the crank).  All they will need to know is the year of your camper.  There are only 2 keys that Coleman/Fleetwood have used over the years.  The keys are only a couple of dollars.

Good luck with the camper.:)

There are only 2 keys that open all Coleman/Fleetwood PUs.  I forget what year they changed, I think around 1989, but as long as you know the year the dealer will have keys in stock.  By the way the code on your key is 8025.

Knowing that all of the Fleatwood PUs used the same key would worry me if it wasn't for the fact that you can just un-velcro the door and get in with out the key.

or just unhook the bunkend tenting, or cut a hole in the tenting, etc.  It is nice if you forget or loose your key though.:)

This gives me such a warm sense of security!

How secure is tent camping though?  LOL

Thanks to all for your responses...

it appears I now have a new vocabulary:
Key to stair panel; lift system lock and crank arm.

it's greatly appreciated

Um it is the key to the access door and just called the crank or crank handle.:)

Just being somewhat facetious.  I've never for a minute thought of a PUP as being secure, even with a lock on the door.  If you want security, lock it in the tow vehicle.  I might have a higher sense of trust of fellow campers than I should.  But then again, I've never had a safety or security problem in a campground.  Fellow campers seem to be willing to take care of each other.

It's possible, since you can't open the door/step, that the crank is stowed where coleman designed it to be stowed; on clips inside the door/step. Get a key and find out. Any friends or neighbors got a coleman pup?
