Fishing Mods...

I am ready to start Modding my pup, and wanted to know if anyone has made any fishing related mods to theirs.  Specifically I am looking for ideas on hanging assembled fly rods against the ceiling, and I would love to see if anyone has come up with a good way to hang up wet heavy clothing (i.e. waders, goretex jackets, and loaded down fishing vests)- either inside or outside the camper.

If no one replies, expect to see some pics from me posted in the not too distant future.  Camping season is beginning out here in the Norhtwest, and I am itching to get going.  I can't imagine it is going to take more than a trip or two to start coming up with ideas.

thanks in advance.

PJay and I think of the box part of the pop-up as the kitchen.  Don't know about you, but I'd be in trouble hanging heavy wet clothes to drip on the kitchen floor!  :yikes:

I live in the world's capital of ice fishing, which is the first thing I thought of when I read your post.  Folks will spend tens of thousands on their ice fishing "cabin" (always a form of trailer).  I do not ice fish myself; I'm too much of a cold-wimp.  But in any case, I've never heard of anyone using or modifying their pop-up to use while ice fishing.

There have been posts in the distant past where people have created zigzag clothes lines under the beds on the back side of the popup to hang towels, pool toys, etc. to dry. Don't know if this idea would help you. Also, on my Dad's big ol boat he kept his rods ready and clipped up near the ceiling of the cabin just above the curtain line. Also don't know if this will help! Happy modding,

Always kept the fishing stuff in the tow vehicle.  Didn't want the kids to find the hooks.

Waders were generally dried out on the picnic table on  a clothes line strung under one of the beds.

Happy fishing.  Trout season doesn't really start in NH until around the end of April.

Nothing like camping and fly fishing. Well almost.

-I tried ice fishing once, but it is awfly hard to land the fly in the hole in the ice

-I am not sure if I want to put a trap door in the floor of my PUP.  Plus my RT series's extra ground clearance would make the unit a bit drafty

Thank You... I'll be here all week

Have a specific rig for hanging waders,  OUTSIDE, and usually suspended from a tree. Same for the fishing vest and rain jackets, all have a place for hanging, usually I'll run a clothes line just for fishing gear. Should a monsoon settle in and hanging the vest, jacket and such on the line be not that practical, I have a board with some clothing hooks that I attach under a bunk end and those items can at least hang there outside yet out of the weather. Of course, don't hurt the waders to hang upside down in the rain, just as long as the water is not running into them!

I also usually pitch my 9' X 9' dome tent close to the popup and I store a lot of gear in there, too - like tackle boxes, extra rods and whatever other gear you can think of.

But the camper is usually for my "resting", and in certain weather, where I'll take my meals. And what kind of a fishing trip is it if you can't have a little card game in the evening!

We're no help, as we'll hang in the shower if we can't hang outdoors ;)

Speaking from experience...that is a mistake you only make once. :yikes:

I haven't got to try this yet, but I'm going to make a rack for drying towels to take in our PUP.  I'm going to get some 3/4 PVC pipe, 45 degree, 90 degree, and T connectors.  Then I'm going to cut sections of the PVC pipe about 3 ft. in length and assemble them to resemble an open stepladder.  Hopefully the fittings will be tight enough to stay together without PVC glue, as I want to be able to take it apart to store it.  If not, I will use some bungie cords to keep tension on it.  If you use the larger diameter PVC, 1 1/2 to 2 inch, it should be able to hold heavier stuff.  If you decide to try this before I get to it, I'd like to see some pics.  If not, when I get it done, I'll post some.  Hope I could help.

Using a broom hangup from the hardware store, you know the kind that pinch the handles of brooms and mops, pop rivet it to the inside of your trunk lid.

Put PVC tubes of the appropriate diameter there and then stick the rods into the PVC tubes.
