Well I can t resist putting the first post in here. We reserved  our first site of the season at Nickerson sp on Cape Cod last night.

Grumpy49Is Nickerson a nice place? We ve camped at Horseneck Beach and Lake Dennison and while Lake Dennison was bearable, although the bathrooms were not very clean. Horseneck was filthy and run down, with campsites so close I was kept awake by our neighbors talking until 2 am! And they were really just talking, not loud at all!

You heading up to Umbagog this year?  I'll be there around June 16th for a couple of days.

I will be at Lake Frances June 13 to 15th.  Annual fishing trip.

Also plan on going back to Lake Frances sometime in July and Acadia the end of September.

Hi Genef!
No plans (yet) to go to Umbagog this year. That may change though!
STILL haven't made it to Acadia yet either.
Going to Rollins Pond in NY over Memorial Day, then IF we survive the Black Flies, we want to go to the White Mtns, Umbagog, or Hermit's Island in June, but one of my wife's friends kids is having their Bat Mitzvah sometime in June, so it's all up in the air.

Renee, we drive by Pine Haven quite a bit, although you can't really see it from the main road. I've talked with people who have stayed there who liked it, but that's about all I can tell you!

Hi Gene,
Turns out we will be near Umbagog, but it will be June 8th to 11th. Camping up on the Magalloway River this time. Didn't hear great things about Umbagog State Park last year, (Some friends we know left early because of problems) let me know what you think, when you return from there.

Camping starts in 15 days, 22 hours and 15 minutes, but whose counting?

Hey, we went to Lake Francis last year and loved it. We were planning a trip to Umbagog this year.....what kind of troubles did the campers have? We are also thinking about the Adirondacks. I know people have mentioned Cranberry Lake but coming from MA. I don't think I want to go that far as we will be lucky if we have a week. We were actually thinking about Bourne Scenic Park at the Cape Cod for Memorial Day...we like the bike path. Guess it is time to make decisions.

Other than the new rangers being a bit touchy about the boat trip and where we could put our boat, we didn't have much of a problem last year.  Of course, we are on the lake fiishing most of the day.

The Lake Umbagog area is a nice place to go.  We have been going there for several years.  I go every year for a few days of fishing with a couple of buddies.  Nice bass fishing in the lake and good trout fishing in the river.

What cg are you going to on the Mallogway?

garym053

Hi Gene, Sorry, I was in New Jersey!
We have a site on the Magalloway River at the Aziscoos Valley CG in Wilson Mills, Me.
They have 16 sites with W & E, 15 sites without.
We'll post a review after we get back!

garym053

The only problem WE experienced at Umbagog Lake State CG the last time we stayed there was: After checking in and getting our site, and setting up, we noticed the fire in the fire ring was still smouldering from the prevoious campers, but since there was no unburned wood on it or open flame, we decided not to douse it as we planned on using the fire ring for camp potatoes later. Anyway, we set up, went paddling, got back and was met by one of the staff who said they were going to fine us for leaving an unattended fire. We explained to him that it was not our fire, and that IF anything, whomever goes around checking and raking sites after they are vacated, should be talked to.
There were others that had some type of encounter, but since we weren't there, I won't comment in detail.
It IS one of the most beautifully located campgrounds, so I hope that these things are isolated misunderstandings.
Perhaps Gene will post his impressions after staying there this year.
