Help with AAR!

My wife & I just bought our first pop-up. It is a used 2003 Coleman Niagara and came with the AAR. Actually I'm not sure it's an AAR, it only has screen panels, nothing solid. Anyway, I pulled the AAR out of the bag and noticed it has a skirt that attaches to the PU. There is a velcro strip in the wheel well, but thats all.  Is there supposed to be a velcro strip all along the side?

If so, does it attach to the side of the frame or on the bottom of the PU skin?

This unit has a swing down half door that makes a step.  How do you route the skirt to stay out of the way of the step?

So many questions, thanks for any answers!

If there is nothing solid, but all screen, what you have there is a Screen Room.

Yes, there should be velcro all along the bottom panel on the curb/step side of your PU.  Also, on the back side of the awning's front rail.  There should also be four small plastic hooks, two one each end of the PU.  And, zip-in velcro inserts in your tentiing zipper.

Essentially the Screen Room attaches to the PU with velcro and the hooks on the side panels, and behind the awning front rail.  The skirt atttaches underneath the PU with velcro.

If velcro is missing, it probably fell off, (or was never installed).  It's very easy to replace.  You just clean off the paint really well, clean it some more with rubbing alcohol, and apply the self-adhesive velcro that you just purchased from your friendly local Fleetwood PUP Service Department.

It sounds like you have the screen room.  There should be velcro along the bottom of the PU.  If it isn't there clean with alchol and then apply some velcro.  The sticky back Velcro usually comes off in a few weeks to a year.  When it starts coming off use Marine Goop to glue it back on.  As far as how the velcro goes around the stepper door, I have a picture of where the velcro goes.  In this picture the stepper door is open just a little bit, so you can tell where the door is.

Thanks beacher & tlhdoc that's exactly what I needed to know!  After laying out the skirt, I thought it must go back behind the stepper door and the picture confirmed it.

Thanks again,
Alan

Use industrial strength Velcro -(Home Depot and others). I tried regular and it came off in a day. Used the industrial strength and it is still there after last year (6 COs) and this year (1 CO so far).

I used the supplied Velcro, prepped the surface and it started coming off with in the first year.  The second year I used the industrial Velcro (had to cut the 2 inch industrial Velcro in to 1 inch), and it started coming off with in the first year.  Used the Marine Goop and I have only had to touch up a few spots, which may not have been Gooped in years earlier.  The Velcro glue just doesn't seem to last. :)

It took about 3 years, but our AAR velcro finally started coming off last summer. My husband and I took some snaps (malke side) and rivited them to the frame and then matched the skirt with the female side of the snap. Took about 9 snaps and it works great.

Kathy I keep thinking about doing that and then don't.  I take the easy way and just Goop it.:)

If you don't want to replace the velcro, you can use the small magnets (business card sized) and use them to attach it to your metal base frame.  Works like a charm!
