OC Campers

We are going to be "kid free" for 4 days in July and were thinking of going to Lake Tahoe for some R and R.  Believe it or not I have never been to Tahoe except for driving thru it.  Where is a good place to camp?  Fortunately, we will be going during the week Tues-Friday so I am hoping reservations won't be so hard to get.  Would like a place with clean restrooms:p;)  ;) .

Fallen Leaf Lake looks really nice but I am not sure if I want to rough it or try and find a place with hook ups.  The other cg I came across was a private place called Zephyr Cove.  Does anyone know anything about this place?

The only place we've been was Tahoe Valley Campground, with NNC (here is the thread: http://www.arveeclub.com/showthread.php?t=52369)

We liked the CG - had lots of trees, etc.  A little further out from the casinos; it is on Hwy 50 about a mile before you get to the big intersection of the road that goes along the lake to the casinos (and, if you stayed on the Hwy50 road, you went to Emerald Bay).

On a different note, this past weekend at Sugarloaf, Towrod expressed interest in also doing a Penninsula (Rollins Lake) trip this summer.  Are you still interested?  If so, we can start a NNC thread to see what weekend would work out...

Tahoe Valley was one of the cg's I saw.  Was it nice with pretty good sized sites?

Yes, we would still like to go up to Pennisula.   Any particular dates in mind?  How about the beginning of June sometime?  Hopefully, the heat will stay away till then.   I will probably have to go to work but it is definately an easy commute into Roseville.

Jacqui --

We've stayed at Sugar Pine Point, a state park, and at Camp Richardson.

I would highly recommend Sugar Pine.  It has no hook-ups, but for four days you can probably manage.  It's a very beautiful, well-spaced out park with very, very clean restrooms.  We loved it and had no complaints.  The beach access is not great at Sugar Pine, but nearby is a state beach that charges $5 for all day in and out privileges, or you can ride your bike for free, and it was a great beach with shade and picnic tables and clean bathrooms.  We preferred it to any others.  If you have bikes, bring them.  There's a bike trail that runs around the lake and picks up right in front of Sugar Pine.  Also, you can bike down to the Hellman-Ehrman Mansion, which is on the park property.

We were very disappointed in Camp Richardson.  Stayed there for the hook-ups and decided it wans't worth it.  Filthy bathrooms in bad shape, dirt and dust flies eveyrtime a car comes by, charge for the dump station, charge for using their beach even though you're a guest (unless you walk in).  In fact, we left a day early because we were so fed up.

We went to Zypher Cove to go on the paddlewheel breakfast cruise.  Very cool.  But the campground is across the highway from the beach and looked crowded to me.

We took a drive through DL Bliss when we went to their beach.  The sites are hard to access and there is no potable water.

Lake Tahoe is still one of the kids' favorite vacation sites.  They love the woods, the lake, the river rafting.  It's just a great place to go.

Thank you Trina for your input.  I ended up getting a site at Sugar Pine SP.  I remembered you had a bad stay somewhere and I couldn't remember which cg it was at.  I will remember to have Randy pack the bikes.  I am really looking forward to this trip.  So Trina-- the restrooms are clean right??:););)
Now if I can get my husband to stop traveling for business long enought to camp.:(

Thanks everyone for your input

I agree with Tracy on C. Richardson.  Not a great campground.  To long of a walk to the water too.  We drove through Zypher and it looked to be a nice place.  Was not too crowded when we saw it.  Big place though.  I though it nice that it was right accross the street from a nice beach.  Tahoe Pines is a nice place too.

Okay.  Okay.  The restrooms are clean, and spacious, and have a separate dressing area.  They take quarters (mini M&M tubes make great quarter holders!).  There are also handicapped restrooms that are even more spacious.

On this one, I confess ;) :D.  I mean, we were there a week, people!!!  On Pismo, no.  I own up when I'm busted.

When you get there, try to get in the loop at the farthest point from the ranger station.  The one nearer is more crowded feeling.  The farther one is a short walk to the shower house and near a biking trail.  Also, there is a restaurant called The Bridge Tender up across from Fanny Bridge.  Great burgers and buffalo wings and giant iced teas!  Have a great time.  I want to go!!!!!

BUSTED!!   :D:D

We got site #88.  I think it is in the middle loop.  We didn't have a lot to choose from but with the help of an ole' friend "Red Barchetta" we chose this site.  Fortunately, the shower house wil only be used for showers:D , with no kids along there will be no worries of anyone asking if we are having an earthquake.:D:yikes:
