Have any of you ever used a portable air conditioner vs a built in variety? If so, how do you vent it? How does it perform. I don't often need the air but would like the convenience of bringing it along if I need to. Northern California can be HOT, but not so much in mountain and beach areas. My grandkids swim and the meets can be all kinds of places. Thanks!

See my AC idea on this page:

Keeps you from having to cut the camper. I haven't added pictures yet, but my DW made a cover for that window that we clip to the canvas/curtains. That way we can leave the AC window "open" without worrying about the rain. She sewed it so that there is a cutout for the AC. (I have attached a picture of this window cover, to this post. It is pictured laid out on the floor. The coffee mug is for sizing purposes.)

We had friends who did something similar.  On their Fleetwood popup they propped the A/C on the rail just outside the dinette.  The canvas pulls away and can be slide back in when you are done.
We then supported the AC with a table and some boards outside the camper.
Of course we added a little duct tape to make the seal secure.
When you are done, remove the AC and side the canvas back
It cooled as well as our overhead AT NIGHT, it wasn't quite a cool in the daytime but much better then doing without.
