Hi, I have been browsing this site every since I thought I might be getting a camper.  Well, last night I went and picked one up.

I got a 1998 Rockwood Premier (1908).  It seems to be in pretty good condition.  My wife and kids are very excited that we have a camper now.

I look forward to absorbing your collective knowledge here.

Here's my first question....

The caulking on the roof seems to be drying out and falling apart in places.  Would anyone pull the roof apart and rebuild it with fresh caulk?

Welcome to PUT and Congratulations on the new PU!

If the caulk is dry and falling ot you will need to re-caulk the seam.  I am not sure what you mean by "pull the roof apart".  You don't want to remove anthing you don't have to.:)

Welcome to the board. My service guy says that on my pu to recaulk the center seam every 3-5 years. I'm going to have him do it next month just to cover my you now what. Also have other areas that need refreshing also. Have fun with your "new to u" camper.Moose

Thanks for the replies.

When I said "take the roof apart"... I meant just that.  I thought I could take the screws out, clean the old caulk and dirt out then pull the parts tight together and recaulk.

The corners look like they might be pulling apart a bit.

I can see that the appropriate place for that in the "Mr. Fix it" forum, now that I've brwsed around as a member.

Thanks again.
