Wonderful Camping Weekend

The kids and I went camping at a local campground this weekend.  We had an awesome time.

I had heard good things about this regional park and we ran out of time to get there last season so we decided to try it this year.  I was telling some friends about it and it quickly became a thrown-together-group-outing.

I went out Friday afternoon and drove through the campground and found several sites together.  The CG let me reserve them all in my name ~ unpaid!  As each family came in they just had to take one of the sites left and pay for it.  I did an acceptable job backing into a site and then realized that the door opened into a bush and there wouldn't be room for the awning!  So I had to take another site and back in again ~ really not one of my strengths!

The kids weren't with me so I took my time setting up the trailer.  This is our first full camping season with the Jayco and I just love it!  Set up went very smoothly and I headed back home to get kids off the bus.  Other families just drifted in.  We ended up with 5 families ~ 9 adults and 17 kids!  Two families just stayed one night ~ they both had tents and small children and  it was a little chilly at night.  The rest of us stayed the whole weekend.

Saturday was supposed to be hiking day, but it drizzled all afternoon.  We pulled the table in under my awning and most of the adults sat there playing cards or other games with the older kids.  The younger kids either played in the PU or made forts in the trees.  Weather cleared up by dinner time and we had an awesome fire and communal dinner.   Everyone brought their own food, but we cooked it and ate together.  We went through at least 2 bags of marshmallows making s'mores and I don't know how much bread making pies in the pie irons!

This is the first time I've gotten out before school was out and it was just the best weekend.  I even got DS to do his homework!!   :D

Everything worked right and I only forgot a couple things ~ nothing essential.  My new favorite camping gadget is the Coleman Hot Water on Demand.  It made clean up so easy!  And I didn't have to worry about the kids knocking over the water while it was warming up.

Now I don't know if I should be worried cuz I used up all my good karma ... or be happy cuz the rest of the camping season should go so well!   ;)

Great trip report!

No campin' for me this weekend, :( but did manage to get out to lake and spend a day in the sun ( a bit too much sun on my lily white upper legs ). It was hot and sunny in central Texas this weekend :)

I am glad you had a good time with Hershey. I think you will have more good trips to come.  So how many of the adults tried and how many adults/kids fell of and landed on their heads?:D   We had Cub Scout crossover, so I took a couple of the Boy Scouts to it. We were only a few miles from where we are camping this weekend, so we went to check it out. I came home and added Thursday to my reservation. I am going to go out by myself Thursday evening and then come home Friday morning to meet my car pool and go to work. Then we will all go out on Friday night, and the camper will be all set. Now I keep thinking I should go out on Wednesday night. It is supposed to be beautiful here this week.:)
