Water pump noise

I just purchased this PU recently & have been trying to get used to what it can do.  After running off t/city supply a few times, I decided to fill the water tank & see how the system runs with t/pump.

With the pump sw on I turn on the water & immediately start hearing a loud pump noise even though the water comes out.  It stops when I turn the water off.  My gut tells me it's not supposed to be loud.  A smooth running pump is what I would expect.

This is self-priming, so does anybody have an idea what's happening?

Most water pumps in popup campers are loud. When I installed mine in my popup I mounted it on a piece of foam rubber from one of those blue camping mats that they sell in most WalMarts. Also when it is screwed down the screws should not be over tightened or it can be louder. Many newer campers use PEX tubing for the water lines which is more ridged than the previously used plastic reinforced hose they used to use. Some of the noise can be eliminated by replacing some of the PEX tubing with some of the more flexable plastic hose. One other way of getting rid of some of the noise is to install a accumulator tank so the pump has a cushion and runs less often. They also make a quieter running pump which is more expensive which runs slower so it is not as loud.

I would agree with the previous post.  The pump may not necessarily be so loud, but the sound traveling through all of the other surfaces and materials.  Isolating it from the floor as the previous poster did is a great way to limit the noise.  Also, the pump is usually mounted in the passenger area and therefore it will be hard if not impossible to eliminate most of the noise.  If the pump is priming and delivering water on demand, I wouldn't worry about it.

We can barely hear ours running. :D .Maybe the previous owner did something but I doubt it. It looks original.

I have heard some really loud water pumps in campers.  They worked OK, but were just loud.  If it really bothers you, you will need to do some work to deaden the sound.  You can also buy a quieter pump or an expansion tank so that the pump doesn't cycle off and on as often.
