The temp here got up to 16 F this morning so I went out and split a bunch of camping firewood I accumulated over the last year.  Last spring a couple of storms brought down trees all over town and a few friends gave me a bunch of green upsplit firewood.  So with the improvement in the weather this morning I decided to try out the new splitting maul the DW got me for Christmas.  I have to tell you that wood was so cold it more shattered than split.  You could strike it one time and it would split into three pieces.  I really enjoyed myself out there for about an hour and a half.  It really did feel ike being out camping.  I am so ready for spring so we can load up and go.

GarrettI got some news that made my heart sink today, the camper is stored at my SIL s and is totally covered in snow!  They can t even get to it to clean it off, I was just saying to DH yesterday how much I miss being able to give it a hug once in a while, now to hear it s buried!  I can t take it anymore, as soon as the snow melts, the camper will be coming home!

GarrettI was splitting wood today also. But I m using it in the fireplace. Brrrrrrr.

Frozen wood is the best to split. Green wood is easy to split also, but then you have to wait for it to dry out before you can use it.

GarrettMy DH gets some relief  from camping withdrawls by firing up his chimnea (mexican outdoor fireplace) in the backyard. I bought him one for his birthday and he lights a fire in it to make it feel like camping. He chops the logs from our wood pile into small pieces to put in it. It gives him a calm after a hard workday.

GarrettI felt like that too. We went on MLK weekend and it got COLD down here in SWLA. But as my wife and I cranked up the heaters and curled under the blankets. We realized even cold camping is better than no camping. We are going again in a couple of weeks Louisiana is good place to live sometimes LOL.
