For me, not you.  :p   But now that I have your attention.

Parents have given us their 1994 Viking PU.  I had actually offered to buy it from them several years ago but they declined.  They just bought a used class C from some friends so they are giving us the PU friday after next (even delivering it)  :D .  I actually already have it titled in our name but not in possesion yet.

Anyway it is 12 years old.  Everything on it is from the factory.  We will be taking it on a 5 week trip just after getting it.  I have decided to buy new tires right off the bat.   Less than $75 I think is good insurance.  But anything else to look out for?  Change the bearings maybe?  Flush the water tank (know they have not the water tank in a long time).  I at least know the axles has been lubed once before.  I borrowed it in spring of '00 and lubed it then.  The trip will cover about 6,000 miles and I want to make sure it goes well.  The trailer has been used but not moved the last couple years.  They had it at their lake property and used it for overflow when they had too many extra people.  It is now back at their house and they are doing a good cleaning to it before bringing it to us.

For sure.....I would get myself a couple of hub seals, cotter pins and grease. Pull the bearings, clean them thoroughly with solvent and inspect them carefully for discoloration and/or pitting. If you see either, put new bearings and races in. If they look good, pack them with grease, install new seals and cotter pins and you're good to go on that aspect.

Does the trailer have brakes?........good time to inspect those as well. If they are electric, be sure to check the magnets.

Flushing the water tank with a solution of diluted bleach & water would be wise. I would fill the tank with the solution, drive the trailer around the block and drain it. Fill it again an run your faucets (hot & cold) for about 5 minutes, then let it sit for about an hour.. Drain it completely and let it sit until you get to your first campground. There is no need to rinse IMHO, because the bleach will dissipate naturally. Fill it up and you're ready to go.

I would also lube the cables, cable tree and all lifting pulleys with lithium grease (some say use silicone spray on the pulleys). I would clean and lube all slides (including roof lift supports) with silicone (on a rag).

Thanks, didn't think of lubing the lift system.  Its a viking and I think there is only 1 cable for lifting.  It is a smaller one so no brakes to worrry about.  No hot water or heat either.  Just a simple basic pu.  It's been a while since I last borrowed it so really can't remember all of it.
