We recently bought a 2007 Jayco 1007 and got the chance to take it out for the first time Father's Day weekend. Everything went off with only a few minor snags caused by operator error/ignorance.

We took it to one of our favorite campgrounds (Rainbow Point, right off of Lake Cascade in Idaho). It began raining as we pulled into the campground, so we got a little wet setting up, but once we were inside, we said let it come down.

The temperature dropped to around 40 on Saturday night, but thanks to our built-in furnace, we stayed comfortable. The only minor snag was remembering how to turn the darned thing on. I kept thinking I needed to light something when I didn't.

The only other minor snag was the refrigerator actually getting too cold, something I did not expect.

All in all, it was a great weekend. My wife is excited about camping again, and my son - for the first time on any camping trip - said he didn't want to leave.
I think this is going to extend our camping season, and I'm ready to go back out!

Sounnds like everyone had fun - glad to hear it.

Having come from the darkside (travel trailer/class C motorhome), I still get freaked out that all I have to do is flip the thermostat on for the heat to work. The first time I used the heater in our 12A, I couldn't get back to sleep until it had run a full cycle. Seems way too easy to run - appliances have always been a pain in our units.

It sounds like you had a great first trip.  We keep a camping journal.  I ask the kids what they want to put in it each day and I add my own comments.  Over the years we have collected a lot of pages.  The kids like to play a game with the journals.  Pick a journal and open it to a random page then read out loud what is on the page.  It brings back some great memories.:)

That sounds like a good idea. My son is high-functioning autistic and likes to draw. I may modify your idea and maybe have him try to draw a picture of his favorite part or parts of each trip.

Many of us use a battery operated fan in our fridge.  It keeps the lettuce and eggs from freezing.

p.s (ok not really p.s. since this comes before the signature):  Drop me a line if you are heading to this side of Potatoland.

Thanks for the tip about the fan; I'll look into that.

Will do. I think we're probably going to stay a little close to home for a while before we begin slightly longer excursions (thinking about Bruneau Dunes in the early fall), but if might wife and I can get time off from work, that could change. :)
