never done it....found THIS online and it may help.  good luck.  let us know how it turns out in case anyone else has similar problems.

It turns out I had a pulley failure - the cable was fine.

Is your lifting mechanism 'Goshan".  Mine is and contacted them directly.  Did you replace the pulley?  My cable did brake at the winch, so I did a complete dis-assemble and reassemble last week.
