Coconino NF AZ CLOSES due to Fire Danger

Announced today, due to extreme fire danger the entire Coconino National Forest in Arizona will be CLOSED to all recreational activities beginning 8AM Friday JUNE 23.

Head east of payson over to the sitgreaves national forest.  It tends to stay open longer.  The Apache national forest is a nice one too but a longer drive.  These forests rarely close during the summer unlike the coconino national forest.  They get a bit more rain due to being on the east side of the state.

Looks like parts of the Sitgreaves and Apache national forests closed yesterday.  Parts are still open though.  Looks like a lot of the stuff on the eastern portion of the state,  by the lakes up in the white mountains are open.   (Hopefully they stay open too as my kids and I are going up for a weeks camping in the Winn campground a week from Monday).

Canyon Point CG on the Rim is a great alternative.
