I tried to search for topics on towing, but server is slow (either here at work or at the website end).

If I have a car that has the max towing capacity of 1000lbs, and I get a hitch that can handle up to 2000lbs, is this a good towing package for something less than 1000lbs, or close to it, such as 950 (unloaded). Since I am a solo camper, I don't pack that much, so hopefully the additional camp supplies and me will only add up to no more than that 1000lbs.

Sorry for the dumb questions but I am new to the PUP, and towing issues. Trying to learn as much as possible.

Your hitch is fine, but if your tow vehicle can only handle 1,000 lbs., then you are really pushing it with a trailer that weighs 950 lbs. unloaded.  It doesn't take much at all to load 50 lbs. of gear into a trailer.

Are you certain about the dry weight of your trailer?  Or are you guessing?  Make sure!  The best way would be to tow your trailer to a scale, such as a landfill, gravel pit, or recycling center.

If you truly are at 950 lbs. dry weight for your trailer, double check the owner's manual of your car.  In many cases, when they list towing capacities, that includes the passenger and and anything you have in the car.  The numbers add up fast!  Just don't push it on the weight limit with your tow vehicle.

Only dumb question is the one not asked.

That said - the 1000 lbs will most likely mean that you are going to have to subtract your weight and the weight of any supplies from the 1000 lbs to determine just how much trailer you can tow.  My guess is you would be talking a trailer that weighs between 6-700 lbs and I just don't know of any unless the outback line has one.

Not the answer you want to hear and not one I am happy giving but thats the way it seems to stack up.

Thanks for all the input.

I may have to reconsider the Livin lite, and possible go for the Leesure lite.

If so, not sure if that is considered a pop up or a pop up wanna be :p . But if not
I will continue to read on the boards all info in case I ever have the opportunity to upgrade to first as Saturn Vue V6 (towing max 3500), then consider the options then.

Also will be anxiously waiting out local RV/Boat show in Feb/march so I can check things out there.
