Will my unit be there when I arrive??

We will travel up to 800 miles to pick up a PU when we find a good unit from a seller.

Question is this:

If we communicate with the seller and agree on everything, how can we guarantee the unit will not be sold locally before we arrive to pick it up?

I told my wife this is a smaller "circle of trust" ground (the PU campers) and she says I cannot depend or control how people will act.

So, how does one ensure the unit will still be there after many hours of driving and lots of money spent on the GAS???

Thanks

I bought from a long distance dealer and got a purchase/sale agreement. Not sure if you are buying from a private seller or a dealer?

Tough one if it is private sale. If you send a deposit to hold it you could lose. If he sells it before you arrive you could lose. Not sure other than hope he is an honest person. The other thing to consider is if the camper was misrepresented and you drive that far and don't want it.

We have a 2005 Fleetwood Destiny "Yuma" for sale in the Tidewater, VA area.  Used 3x...like new.  $5200 firm.

You need to know that there are some unscrupulous dealers that will give out false information to you over the telephone. It's called putting you "on the ball" and that means when you call them about a purchase they will flat out lie to you and tell you can buy such and such model for a certain price, which in fact they cannot or don't even have such a model in stock. The idea is to get you to come on down and then they'll work you over from there! And the further you have to drive, the better! What have they got to lose even if you will not buy.
As for individual sellers, I would think they would be a notch above but then who knows this day and time. But for sure ... send no monies! If I contacted a seller I'd sure make sure it was within a day's drive. Take the tent along so you could spend the night somewhere in their near vacinity just in case it's going to take some extra time, like for getting your tow vehicled hitched and wired and such.

There have been a lot of posts here on PUT over the years of folks buying popups a little distance away, both from individuals and dealers, that have nothing but praise for the way things went. But then there have been a few others, too!

Good luck.

The answer is NO.  You can not guarantee what the other person will do.  Good luck with  getting your PU.:)
