Did a really dumb thing during first camp outing.  As wife took care of screaming toddlers, I frantically scrambled to break camp.  I lowered the roof but it didn

I think the sway is normal.
My dealer explained it is built in so you can secure your door when unlevel.

You will probably get lots better answers then this.  Many people here are very technical.

Hope I helped some!

DSB welcome to PUT.  Yes the sway is normal (never tighten the bolts at the top of the lifter arms attaching them to the roof).  In high winds my roof swings several inches back and forth.  If the top goes up and down it is ok.:)

What Doc said. I tightened the bolts when I found them loose. Thinking it would stop the slight roof movement  Needless to say a cable broke the first time I cranked the winch handle. PU's need some "slop" to compensate for flex and uneven stresses.

Yep, the roof bolts attached to the lift arms are intentionally left loose at the assembly line, so that the roof will remain free and level as possible if the base of the PU is slightly out of level..... so I have been told and seeing a written reply from Fleetwood on this very subject.

Glad to hear that you didn't damage the lift system or the door frame.

I too in my haste forgot to remove the door system a couple of years ago while dropping down the roof. As in your case, no ill-effects happened to mine also.

But I was some what embarrased, I did this SPUT after nearly 14 years of camping with a PU.
