We just got back from a 2 week 'family reunion' camping trip at Kerr Lake at the Hibernia CG (Townsville, NC).  I'd initially gone down to check out sites in early July (just after the two weeks of heavy rains), and saw many campsites with fire-rings/picnic tables under water as the lake was so high.  I was able to reserve site 95, water/electric and when I got there 7/28, the site was great.  Level side-to-side, but not so level front to back.  Some shade and room for glide out and Add-a-room.  An easy trek to the bathhouse and a great lake site.  Very hot and humid during our stay and our AC ran continuously.  First night we had a storm - high winds preceeding the rain, and at 1am, we were out holding our awning poles and re-securing them!  The CG has a nice nature trail, and a historic cemetary and one can see the site of the original plantation-Hibernia.  Great boating facilities, good roads, and even a church service at 10 am  Sundays at the amphitheatre.  Personnel were helpful and friendly, and trash removed daily.  First Sunday there, traffic jam at the dump station!

This is our second visit to Hibernia CG.  Our first was tent camping on site 44 last year,  but it's much nicer (to me) in the PUP!  In prior years, family members have camped at County Line CG, but with one family member buying a house in Townsville, we've switched to be closer.  Did not have cell phone reception at Hibernia.  Closest Wal-mart about 20 miles away off 85 in Henderson (Dabney Road) as were most of the chain eateries.  Some good restaurants in the area:  The Olde Place in Townsville, and Lamplighter in Clarksville, VA (just north about 20 miles on 15 via 39).  Best restaurant for us was Middleburg Steak House in Middleburg, VA (Route 1).  Window shopping in Clarksville, VA was great, and antique-ing in Warrenton, NC was nice.  Henderson, NC is the closest major town/city, and has 4 laundrymats.

During our 2 week stay, we watched the lake shrink about a foot every 24 hours.  Shoreline was becomming very gloppy.  Great stay at a very nice state park.  Rates are $20/night for W/E.

We too love Kerr Lake.  Have stayed at countyline many times with a friend who tent camps and he brings his boat.  Great lake for boating.  It's about an hour from the Raleigh area.
