I've been surfing this website and others while looking for a PU.  A month ago I purchased a 1996 Viking Legend 2160ST. The previous owner had it 3-4 years and never used it for more than a tent (before that it was the property of the USGovt!).  

I'm checking out one system at a time.... they didn't know how to operate half of the PU.  Got new tires, packed the bearings, etc. Next is electrical and then propane.

I have a couple of questions:

1. I want to carry kayaks on top (maybe bikes). Canoe goes on top of TV if I take it.  I am familiar with Yakima racks on TV.  What is the preferred setup for a rack on a Viking PU?

2. The electical appears to be just an inverter.  I've browsed through all the threads re: deep cycle batteries and want to add a battery set up.  Some pictures show a factory battery unit mounted on top of the lift/winch.  I don't have this.  Are there brackets that are missing on my unit?

3. Does anyone know who manufactures the locks for the doors and storage compartment?  After changing the storage locks, I found a key while cleaning, and my local locksmith can't figure out what blanks to use to make copies.

Here is a Viking Manual that may take into account your yr/model. It is one we were given with our 2002 but by the pictures it was at least 5-6 yrs older.

BTW most of the pictures are the same as the 1996 manual.  The biggest change is in the equipment brand installed (tires brands changed, etc.).
