Has anyone stayed at Point Lookout State Park in Maryland?  We are going there this weekend from PA and upon looking at the map, I was questioning whether the bridge over the Patusent River at the Solomon's was big enough to handle our 30' travel trailer.  I know many of those coastal bridges are iron draw bridges and some are not real big.  WOuld anyone out there know?  Thanks up front for your info.

In addition - how was your experience here?

Just got back from there on 08/13. I saw several tractor trailers drive over that bridge.
As for the park, it was quiet and the staff was very nice, There is a nature center and civil war musuem in the park. During the weekend they had several activities planned. One was a hay ride from the campground to Fort Lincoln. The fort was a prisoner of war camp during the civil war. We were greeted by a local man who took us on a tour of the fort, then thry had a campfire where he told ghost stories about the fort and park.
There is a nice swimming area, and plenty of areas to fish and crab. Also less than an hour away is Calvert Cliffs State park where you can walk to the beach and hunt for sharks teeth and other fossils, didn't find anything but the kids loved it.

That bridge is a modern concrete Bridge. No I have not pulled a trailer over it, but I could after having driven between Soloman's and California many many times. My husband's gradkids all live down there, we go to the Naval Rec area on the Soloman's side of the bridge, but most major shopping and better prices on gas are around Lexington Park.

Have driven out to Point Look out but never been to the campground.

This bridge you are concerned about is very very high for the distance it spans, but lanes are a good sized and all kinds of traffic goes across that bridge. I am more scared of the Annapolis Bay Bridge than I am this one. If you are nervous about the Bridge, there is a way to get there through Waldorf.

Point Lookout State Park is great.  At times buggy (so have your aresenal ready), but the trails, swimming area, Ft. Lincoln, Nature Center are great.  The tulip loop is full-hookup, and sites are well spaced and secluded feeling.  They do have a washer/dryer in another loop (near nature center) if needed.  There is a great boat ramp, huge fishing pier, and trips to Smith Island.

In the town of Ridge is a nice hardware store with all kinds of good stuff, and the Ridge grocery store is well-stocked, clean and decently priced.  They have a 'lending library' of paperbacks, which is great.

The nearest Wal-mart is in Lexington Park (maybe 12 miles away), and all the chain eateries are also there.  Lots of history in the area (St. Mary's City, etc.) and plenty for kids to do - even if it rains!

Certain loops of Point Lookout are pet friendly.  A coded gate entrance is very nice, and if the ranger station is closed, it's honor system for ice and firewood.

We loved our stay last fall - so restfull and relaxing.
