I recently drained the fresh water tank in my Rockwood 2280 pop up by turning on the faucet and running the water until nothing but air was coming out. We usually camp at sites that provide direct ("City") water and have never used the pump before but did notice an odor from the water coming out from the faucet. I thought a check valve in the system was surposed to prevent the filling of the internal storage tank? Anyway, the pump ran when the faucet was open and didn't stop after the tank appeared empty; I had to throw the electrical converter switch to off to stop the pump. I fear I might now have a problem next time camping if the pump start up and doesn't turn off. did i do something wrong?
Thanks,
Mike

The pump doesn't know that the tank is empty, and because it can't build pressure, it keeps on pumping.  At least on Colemans, the fresh water tank is drained from under the camper.  Did you have to throw a switch to get the fresh water pump to run?

You probably didn't do any damage to it - just make sure that your fresh water tank is drained thoroughly, and is sanitized with bleach to kill any extra fiber...

Thanks for the reply; I didn't even know that there was water in the tank because I didn't knowingly fill it since we always camp at "city" water sites. i didn't throw any switch to get it to run or drain; the pump turned on when I turned on the faucet and continued to run even after the water was drained and air was coming out of the faucet, It worried me because it wouldn't stop running. Can I temporarly disable the pump with out damaging anything? We're first year pop up campers so some of this is still new to us.

I would be very surprised to learn there was no switch for the water pump.  It could be that it has always been off and recently got bumped or shifted to the "on" position.  Do you have the manual for your Rockwood?

There proberly is a switch, I didn't look for it since we were packing up to leave and the water pump never comes to mind because we always camp at "city" water camps. Its proberly under one of the seats next to the sink and next time i'll look and turn it off.

I should know where it is, because of being around Forest River popups, but I don't.  On the Fleetwood/Coleman Utahs, it is located below the galley, next to the sink behind one of the dinette backs (So that you don't water it!).  Like AB said, I also would find it really suprising if you didn't have one.  Bet that kicking on scared the bejessus out of you!
