Hello All,

I'm picking my 2000 Bayside up from the dealer this week after having the ABS roof replaced with the new Alumitite roof.  Does anyone know of any issues I should look at when I pick it up that might not be obvious. I plan on opening it up @ the dealer but I'm curious if anyone has run into any issues later that they didn't notice @ delivery.

Thanks,
Jim

I've never had that experience but one thing does come to mind. I would not simply open up the PU (which probably isn't what you meant). I would also put the door in place and put out the bunk ends, to be sure that everything fits right.

Make sure it seals (especially along the front) when you put it back down.

I had my roof replaced several years ago.  Here are some of the problems I had with my roof.  The roof was not adjusted high enough to put the door in place and have the door latches attach to the roof.  The corners of the roof gasket are mitered cut.  The gasket was not put on evenly and the corners keep coming apart.  The new roof is lower and the AC location is behind the axel taking weight off of the tongue.  I had hardware missing from the roof.  The metal loop that holds the flap, that covers my shower, was missing.  The snaps for the privacy curtain for the shower were in the wrong places.  The snaps for the straps that hold the shower curtain rod were in the wrong place.  If you look at the inside of the roof (between the tenting and the roof), were the roof latches are located, there are bolts with nuts on the end between the tenting and the inside of the roof.  The nuts and bolts are only covered with duct tape.  If the tape comes off the ends of the bolts will rub against the tenting.  The corner end caps on my roof separated from the roof and had to be replaced.  The valance along the inside of the roof were just barely hanging on.  They are just attached to the roof with a few pieces of Velcro.  Good luck with your new roof and you are very smart to check it throughly before taking it home.:)

Thanks for the advice. Yes, I was planning on completely setting up the PU to check everything out. Thanks TLHDOC, that's exactly the type of information  I was looking for. It's those little things that I didn't want to miss.(The dealer is 35 miles away). The tip about the hold down bolts is great.

Thanks again,

Jim

Brad, I have a 2002 Fleetwood Sun Valley with the ABS roof also.  Mine is fine at this point and I don't plan on replacing it unless something changes.  Others here have said the same thing, I would listen.  There is a greater chance that you will not have any problems being that it has already survived 6-7 years.  Most of the roof that have problems, have them occure in the first couple years.  Relax and enjoy your new(to you) PUP!!!

There are no hard numbers out in public.  I wouldn't worry about the roof unless you see sag or spread developing.:)
