I'm new to this forum and posted this to the Arvee Club but probably it should have gone here.  I haven't used an RV before so am a complete novice and am looking for advice on towing capacity of my vehicle, which is a Toyota Highlander with towing capacity of 3000 lb.  I'm looking at a 2006 Viking Epic model 2007 which has a GVWR of 2320 lb.  Can I safely tow this trailer in the mountains at elevations up to 10,000-11,000 ft., or should I look for something smaller?  Thanks for any help.

Welcome to PUT!

The towing capacity of your vehicle normally includes everything in the TV (tow vehicle) as well as the weight of the trailer.  It would leave you with less than 700 pounds for the TV, but it can be done.  You would be pushing the TV going up and down the large mountains.  Does the trailer have brakes?  I would want brakes on a trailer going down the mountains.  :)

Bill, which engine do you have in your Highlander? We have the V6 in our '03, and I thought the manual said there is a 3,500 lb. towing capacity. Just curious...500 lbs. is 500 lbs.

Thanks.

I have the 4 cylinder.  The owner's manual says towing capacity is 3000 for that engine.

OK, that would make sense...
