We just noticed that we have nothing planned for the weekend of Nov 17-19.

We're thinking about a camp-out at one of our beautiful beaches. We're going to go to Thornhill Broome this weekend (Spur of the moment) and Leo Carrillo Oct 27th but we thought that we would like to try McGrath SP on the Nov 17th weekend.

I don't care for the new Reserve America website:
http://ra2.reserveamerica.com/campgroundDirectoryList.do?agency=ca

You can't tell how many spaces are available any more. In fact, when I checked Nov 17, it said there was nothing available. However, I then checked the weekend before, it said "No Availability" but every date after that showed available, including Nov 17. How weird is that? I booked it and it went through. I think that they have some bugs to work out of the system.

Anyone else game for McGrath Nov 17-19??

Sounds nice, but I have a 2-day conference in San Diego & have to be down there Sunday night.

McGrath is nice.  Not like your roadside campgrounds, but it's nice.  The sites are large & usually have nice bush "fences" between them.  Bathrooms are clean.  The beach is great, too, but you have to do a little walking to get to it.  Last time I was there (2 years ago on Veteran's Day) Brandy & I had the beach to ourselves -- literally.  Couldn't have been much nicer.

There is a larger road that's right next to the CG, so if you're a light sleeper it can be a bit irritating.  Not close enough to hear the beach, unless there's a breeze coming in from the ocean.

Still, it's a great campground, and I'd go back in a flash.  Just can't go then.

Have fun!

Don't think we can swing it...we will be at Campland the weekend before. and the school sent out a note today about taking the kids out for vacations. That was for everyone else but me ;)

So the Temecula trip they are doing a field study on the fall climate of the Inland Desert while recording the metabolic effects of sugar while observing the cultural rituals of the Day of the Dead.  :book:

Yes, Griffin is part of that study too. I believe that he's one of their test subjects. :D

(Wavery--No worries. I speak "Dee" What she said is that the kids will be playing outside while eating loads of candy and celebrating Halloween.) ;)

We'll be in the Sierra's. We leave Saturday the 18th to pick up Hannah and head for Twain Harte. We'll be there until Friday when we go to the Bay Area for a wedding. We do like McGrath though.Moose

We can always send Griffy & Kara to play with a new puppy :D

But it does sound much more educational the way I put it  :book:   and if it's educational, it must be an excused absence  :sombraro:

Hi AzuzaTeach.

My family goes to McGrath anually, with out YMCA Princess group. Our last trip there was in July.

Overall, we like the camground, and my kids love the place.

To reach the beach, it is a pretty long trek across some neat sand dunes. An inlet has naturally formed near the point that the Santa Clara River (or is the Santa Clara River) meets the ocean. This means that in addition to hiking west across the dunes, you must also hike south to get past this inlet.

The one aspect that I wasn't crazy about were the restrooms, which I felt were not well kept up.

The sites are nice, although none have hookups. Last July we had the best weather we've ever had. Non of the typicall sumertime morning gloom, we had clear skies and temps in the 70's.
