Hello:
I have been shopping around for a used ( but still in good condition) PU and a sort of local dealer has a 2518 which the floor plan looks like it will work fo me.  I am planning to head to see it Saturday.   The quesiton I have is can you use a Weight Distribution Hitch with a rockwood trailer?   Like it or not my TV is a 2001 T&C  (Yes it has a 3500 towing capacity) but the manual states anything over 2000lbs must be used with a WDH.   I know with the fleetwoods it is fine but some of the lighterweight manufacturers state that it voids the warranty (even though their is not one on a used unit) as the trailer A-frame is not strong enough for it.

Not that I have a reason to not trust the dealers answer to this but a salesmans job is to get the unit off the lot...

Thanks in advance

One way to rule out using a WDH is to look at the materials used in the A-Frame.  If it is a C-channel material (a box with an open side) then a WDH is a definite no.

There may be lighter weight closed box materials or specific construction designs that preclude use of a WDH, so the opposite is not true...not having a C-channel frame does not automatically mean a WDH is OK.

Although I am a very big proponent of weight distributing hitches, there are other alternatives that you might consider.  Personally, and this is just my opinion, but with a FWD, I wouldn't.

Thanks for the info.  I decided to pass on this one.
