Another Northern Redneck story (much shorter)

In this thread, I describe how some ancestors of mine uh, kept marriage in the family, so to speak.

PJay has her own version (when doing Genealogy research, I research her family as much as I do mine) of a Yankee Redneck story.

Sylvanus Dewey married Mary Edwards.  They had sons & daughters, a total of 5.  They worked the farm.  Life was good.  Sylvanus died.

Mary did a great job raising a large family on a large farm.  She really was remarkable, and I have significant evidence of this from local newspapers.

Well, two of their daughters married William M. Wescot and Herbert J. Wescot.  William and Herbert were brothers.  The family tradition was that they were both sons of Will Wescot Sr.

I discovered that Mary (the mother) eventually married Joseph Wescot.  This was something I had not known before.  So how were Will Sr. and Joseph related?  It turns out they were brothers, so it appears that her daughters were now also her nieces, and her sons-in-law where her nephews!

OK, I had to fill out the rest of the family on this one.  But there was a problem.  Naw, that can't be right.  Let's check the previous census.  Nope, it was that way then, too.  Durn.  Will didn't have sons named William or Herbert, but his brother Joseph did!  In adition, the William M. and Herbert J. that were sons of Joseph were born at the right time, down to the day!

So she married her sons-in-law's father, her daughters' father-in-law.  That means she's the step mother of her own daughters, and she's step mother of her sons-in-law...the boys got to choose whether she was the wicked stepmother or the evil mother-in-law...or both at the same time!

Could you imagine...who do you, as a daughter, go to complain to when your mother-in-law does something that sets you off?  To your mother?  But that's your mother-in-law!  What were these girls to do?

And the guys...their sisters-in-law are now their step sisters...in fact, their wives are their step sisters...and they weren't when they got married!  That would give me a complex...Imagine trying to explain it... "I wasn't married to my sister, but now I am...no, I didn't get divorced, either...no, I've only been married once...well, my step mother is my mother in law..."  Good grief!

So now, how about the girls?  Well, when they were born, they were sisters, and when they married, they became sisters-in-law, but now they are also step-sisters, since they are both the step-daughters of their step-father.  So if your husband is also your step-brother, then his wife is your sister-in-law...that means each of those girls was their own step sister-in-law!

It's funny, but sadly, it's also true.  :screwy:
