Hello, I am having trouble with my Internet explorer. It is doing some very odd things.Sometimes it will completely close the page i am visiting for no reason or it will be very slow loading pages and when i say slow i mean very very very slow for eg i tried to google something and after 10 minutes of the page trying to load i gave up.I thought that it was perhaps the topic i was searching so i tried putting in random things to see if that made any difference but it didn't.Another problem i had was when i was on a forum and clicked on a link and nothing happened i tried to open a new tab and that wouldn't work either and it would let me access any options that are in my tools menu.i had to restart my computer.Just to let you know i have high speed Internet connection. Thanks in advance to anyone that helps me with this problem.

I've got a solution: //www.mozilla.com

Download Firefox 2.0 for free, and you'll never look at IE again, except for the RARE page that doesn't work (or a link) with Firefox. Been using it for 3 or 4 years now and I love it! (Especially the tabs)

I second that. I only use Firefox unless there's that rare page that won't load with it. Firefox works very well. They say there's much less threat of virus infection using it.

You can download IE 7 for free, and it has tabs as well.  Should have had them years ago.

My whole family uses Firefox.  The only reason I don't is that I have to use IE at work, and since I make my living at work (duh), I'm not interested in having to switch my brain back and forth between FireFox and Internet Explorer.

BTW, I call  them Internet Exploder, Netscape Agrivator, and Fox On Fire.

Hi, Welcome aboard!

Even if you go with Firefox (which I agree with) download, install and run
Spybot Search and Dsetroy  . And Ad-Aware they will help rid your computer of tracking cookies which is most likely the problem. Being the first scan it may take a little bit of time.  Follow the directions and remove everything it says.

All good suggestions.  This might be a longshot, but I was having similar problems with a laptop that my kids use.  Oldest DS was complaining about IE dropping out unexpectedly, so I loaded Firefox.  Firefox would then drop occasionally, too.  I told him to live with it.  About 2 days ago, he told me the mouse wasnt working right.  I took it apart, saw a loose roller and put it back together.  But it didn't solve the problem.  Looks like our mouse went bad.  I'm thinking that might be the problem.

I feel comfortable also recommending Adaware and SpyBot S&D.  They helped me fix up and keep running my wifes computer, and she tends to download tons of crap that makes me go  :yikes: .

Whatever your level of computing ablities is, always ensure you have a anti-virus program running, and a firewall.  Believe it or not, there is a FREE anti-virus software program out there, called Avast.  My coworker uses it and swears by it.   I am still using up my Norton Antivirus/internet security time, and then I may switch to that.

There is also something you can do with IE that "turns off" and/or deletes all those little browser helpers and plug ins your IE browser loads up.  These things contribute to slow computer speeds and crashes, especially if they have spyware or adware attached.  I can't remember how I did it, and I can't figure it out now because I'm not at my home computer.  If you'd like, PM me and I'll look into it over the weekend for you.

Good Luck,
Doug

Go to Tools> Internet Options and delete the temporary files, cookies and browsing history. If this doesn't help try going to Add/Remove Programs and select Internet Explorer and click on Repair. This should help clean out numerous files that are gunking up your PUTer...

Good luck!
