Hi All...This question is more for the Canadians out there....Does anyone have any info on Crown land camping in Ontario? Is there such a thing in the U.S.?

ForestCreature

I asked about Crown Land once and diddn't get replies either.  I had asked on a few difrferent forums.  I was and still am curious about the Chapleau Game Preserve area.

The equivelant in the US would be our National Forests .

I know that people out there do it. I just don't know anything about it.
I myself did it once. A friend of mine knew of a spot. We drove up some logging road walk for a couple of miles and set up at a beautiful spot. It was great. Of course a PU wouldn't of made it.
I'll ask around the office maybe someone will know.

Here is the link to the Chapleau Park you are talking about.
There is contact information available on that site.

As far as crown land camping my suggestion would be to contact the Ministry of Natural Resources in the area you are looking for.  They are always helpful and would give you the heads up on where you could camp.

Thanks for the replies...I attended The Toronto Sportsmans show this week and spoke to an OPP officer and a couple of rangers from Ont.Parks. They said that camping on crown land is allowed, and the gathering of dead wood for a fire is also allowed. They suggested the Min. of Natural Resources website for maps. The site has great printable maps of crown land areas but also says that you need a crown land camping permit at $10 per night per person. I'm a little confused because the officers never mentioned a fee! I'll keep looking and let all know what I find. Please share any info you may have !!!
