Thought I would give you an update on our first trip with our 'new' 1993 starcraft trailer.Loaded up and headed out to Julian for the weekend.  Towed great.  Made a stop about 50 miles in to check things (I repacked the bearings before we left so I wanted to double check everything)  Good thing I stopped the safety chain had come off and was dragging on the freeway.  Fixed that and towed to Pinezanita Campground with no problems.

We had a great time.  Only one small leak in the sink faucet, that I think I fixed.  Everything else worked great.  Good thing we brought a heater along.  Cold the first night.  And about midnight the second night it started to rain and then Hail and then...SNOW!  Yes we woke up to snow.

We had to break down the trailer in snow/rain.  NOT SOMETHING I WOULD RECOMMEND!  But we got it done.  Towed home no Problems.

I just opened the trailer in the drive to let the canvas dry.

Overall a fun experience.  But better weather next time!!

How did you like the campground?  We have thought about camping in the Julian area.  Were hookups provided or were you camping dry?

It sounds like a memorable first trip.  Glad you enjoyed the trip.:)

Glad your first trip went well. Hope you can make some of the SCCAMPERS outings.

I'll echo congratulations on enjoying a trip during weather that might have soured some people's perception.

Our second trip in a (rental) popup involved howling wind and driving rain, but we enjoyed it since unlike a tent we could enjoy sitting on a sofa with the furnace blowing instead of hunkering down in our sleeping bags.

Depending on your review I may try Pinezanita.  It looks nice from the website and prices are very reasonable for a private campground.  ($24 base plus ala carte extras for utilities and people)

Oh did I mention that I had chicken pox that started the day before we left, and got worse as the weekend went on?

I will try to get a "review" of the campsite sometime today...

We had friends who owned a B&B, and when someone went on our recommendation, it snowed so hard that they had to wake up the guests and give them breakfast to go because the CHP was going to be closing the roads!  Hard to imagine that much snow in the San Diego area.
