Had a trip planned for this past Friday and Saturday near Benbrook, TX.  However, due to a severe weather warning for Friday night which predicted large hail, we decided to go Saturday morning instead (didn't want dents in the new PUP and TV).  As you can guess, the weather folks were wrong, and we only had a trace of rain on Friday night, so we headed to the camp site and arrived at about 8AM on Saturday.  We got the Niagara all set up, just in time for the wind to start about 9AM.  The wind just kept getting stronger and stronger until we were experiencing sustained 40-45 mph winds, with gust to about 60 mph.  Let me tell you, there were several times I thought we were going to get blown over, but didn't want to try taking down the PUP in the high wind either.  We stayed and about 2 AM the wind finally stopped, and Sunday morning was beautiful.  I'm sure glad the Niagara is a heavy beast, I don't know what would have happend to a smaller PUP.  Several of the 5'ers around us gave up and left due to the wind.  Oh, what an exciting first trip.

Sounds like you had a good initiation.  We, too, seem to be wind magnets.  It's pretty amazing how much wind the PUP can withstand.  Only once have I seriously considered going to the TV to sleep!  But I was brave!

Did you enjoy the swaying of the roof?  It can be very nerve racking when the winds are high, but PUs can take it.  Hope your next trip is a little less stressful.:)

Yep, the roof would move about 6" sideways when the gust would hit us, and the door would bend in the middle.  Also, the dust cloud from the storm was over 400 miles long and pilots reported as high as 17,000 ft.  The visibility was much less than 1/2 mile.  We had dust everywhere inside the PUP, so much of Sunday morning was spent cleaning.

I was reading the post and wanted to know if anyone has camped in and around Ft Worth?  I am moving there in June and would like to take my family out for our first camping trip in the Lone Star State to celebrate the 4th of July but will need reservations soon, I figure.  Any help or info would be great.

Thanks,
