Okay, everyone.  It's finally happened.  Those of you within driving range of my city need to be warned -- David got his license.  :yikes:

He passed on the first try.  He's very happy.  Dad's not so happy at the insurance premiums we'll be paying for him.  David's now bugging Dad to finish his truck so he'll have his own wheels.  Yikes!!!!  Guess my gray hair will be getting more gray by the minute.

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!! By the way has Lori posted her cobbler recipe for David yet?

Now the fun starts..........Good luck.......

You have to get him the bumper sticker that says "If you don't like the way I drive, stay off the sidewalks"

Kendra got her permit too.  She is now bugging us constantly to drive.  Randy has quite a few more gray hairs than before.

welcome to the club. thank god for cell phones to keep track of them!! we're on our second teenage driver, the insurance will break me.
by the way, my water polo son also had shoulder surgery last November. He's still recovering, hopefully he'll be ready for summer camp.

Hi Trina,
Is Bakersfield too far for him to drive? That is great for David, not so good for your gray hairs!
Have you taken that first ride with your son to see if he knows the "ten and two" position on the steering wheel?

   Have fun!

What school does he play for?

David made it to the middle of August when he started complaining.  His abusive parents thought it was a pulled muscle and told him to suck it up.  Hell week was too much and I finally took him to the doctor.  Whoopsie --swimming was the worst thing he could have been doing!  And you know in water polo they're doing a lot of butterfly to build those shoulders.  That's gotta hurt!

He's primarily driven with me.  I calmly say things like, "David, you need to move more center in the lane.  You're getting close to the curb."

Paul says things like, "WATCH IT!  You're going to smash the curb and RUIN MY RIMS!  DAVID!!!"  And then they argue and Paul claims he spoke calmly and David gets mad.  With me he seems to do fine.  I'm still not ready to cut him loose on the road yet though.

In our car it is  "hit the brakes, hit the brakes, hit the brakes!!!!   Kendra has an aversion to the brake pedal.

UPDATE:  Saturday was our picture day for our softball league and Paul brought both kids because I wanted a picture of them together in their uniforms (though I had David wear his team shirt rather than a Speedo!!!).  When they were done I asked him if he'd like to go home, he said yes, so I gave him my keys.  He tried to act real calm, but I could tell he was pretty happy to be trusted to drive home by himself.  But typical 16YO boy, he forgot to call me when he got home to let me know he and my car made it home safely.  It was his first time driving by himself.

The bigger issue is schedule.  We have four weekends this season that our team has no games -- the first was opening day, the second was picture day (which I'm in charge of), the third is Easter weekend, and the fourth falls on the bowling tournament day (which I'm in charge of).  Starting April, David starts Saturday beach practices.   By the time we can afford the hybrid, the kids will be gone and we won't need all the room, but we'll have lots of time to camp!
