We are picking up our used 2006 KZ Coyote CMS  on Thursday and I am so excited, I have wanted one of these for several years!!

We just bought a 2002 f150 crew cab 5.4 engine.  We have dirt bikes also.  The idea was to put the bikes in the back of the truck and tow the camper.  Sounds great, but I didn't realize the bed was so short that we have to use the bed extender which means the tailgate is down.  So, I have 2 questions.. 1.  Can you tow with the tail gate down?  2. If so, are we going to be ok on weight?  Trailer weighs 4200 empty.  We are planning to get the equalizer and sway bar etc.  Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks so much in advance... KIM

Towing with the tailgate down depends alot on the vehicle. You will need to check clearances between the gate and the tonge jack.

We were in this same situation except that we were towing our 05 Niagara tent trailer.  (We too have an 02ish F-150 supercrew with the smaller engine.)  He purchased the extender and I told dh that keeping the tailgate down wasn't a good idea.  Well, I was right.  The crank handle on the tongue ended up beating up the tailgate and put some hefty dents/bulges in it.  They are still there to this day.  I'd say, don't do it if you want to keep your truck looking good.

Thanks for your replies.. Kim, that is what I was afraid of.  I wonder if there is any way to extend the hitch?  I am so mad at myself for not thinking of this before we bought the truck!  All of that thinking and planning and now this!  Figures....

I just googled this problem and someone else has this problem and some people said that you could get a different kind of trailer jack, that is shorter or that bends.  Just wanted to let you know.. I am going to look into it myself.  Thanks again for your reply.
