Hello, I have a 1978 Coleman Gettysburg that I am doing a restification on(not a full blown resto, but sprucing her up a bit) When I crank the top up, the left rear is not working and has to be helped along by hand. What are the steps I should take to get this problem solved. Thanks for your help. I attached a pic of the camper.  Seems o be tension to that corner.

You may have a cable that is stretched or separating. It could also be a faulty or broken pulley.

It would be best to find out what it is before something happens. If the cable is starting to come apart, it will stretch for a while , then break. The cable is made up of 19 small wires, twisted together to make one strong but flexible cable. If one of those small wires brakes, it will cause the cable to "Stretch". That will increase the load on the remaining wires and they will eventually give way too.

If one of the pulleys is worn out, bent or broken, it could have the same effect. It will not be in proper alignment and the cable will not be able to go the full distance.

Meanwhile, I would suggest propping up that corner with a rod or 2x4 until you find the problem.

Hello My3bucks and welcome to PUT
seeing your picture of your PU brought back great memories for me. This is the exact year and model PU I had for 20 plus years, before getting my present one.
Wavery gave you great advice and I would also recommend that you make a copy of Lift System manual scroll down to the bottom and you will find the Coleman lift systems manual. This should help you out a lot.
have fun with your restore project.
