How long to make replacement cables for lift?

I need to replace the entire cable lift system on my 73 starmaster 6.  How do I figure out how long each cable needs to be?  there are no 'old' cables to go by, they have been removed and replace with a poor substitute that shredded itself.

I do have the original rusty harness that links the main cable to the 4 pole lifters, and I've found some pulleys that should work if I need to replace pulleys.  I have an idea of what guage wire to get for the pole cables and the main cable, but not how long to cut each one.

Any ideas or guidelines?

Laura,

You can get a great deal of helpful information from Starcraft technical support.  Ask for Bob Jones at extension 209.  He is a genius.

He will have all of the measurements for your unit and will get them to you.

I  called starcraft today, and the guy in parts (Jerry?) told me that they didn't sell direct and that I had to get stuff thru a dealer. they didn't give out plans or diagrams either, but he could transfer me to someone who would mail me a manual.  ( downloaded the '71 mnual from pop-up portal, so it doesn't have what I need, but does have some info I can use about the furnace, etc. ) I got a voice mail for her and left my info, so hopefully she'll send it.

Maybe I'll call again tomorrow and ask for Bob -

the thing that is bugging me is that I KNOW I had the plans for the old starlite lift system and can't find them.  And I'm a packrat - i know I didn't get rid of them, but can't find them!

Hi! My dh just replaced the lift systems in our 83 Starcraft he used 50" for the inside track eye to eye and about 12 feet on the outside tracks plus more for underneath he just eyballed the outside track. I hope I am making sense since I am trying to tell you what he told me! If you send me your e-mail address I will e-mail you the lift diagrams he says you they are pretty straight forward.

Laura, get 20' for each corner, that will be more than you need, but it is better to have and not need, you know.  If you start the install with the roof fully up, and start the cables from the lifters then string them to the eye bolts on the harness. (check the eye bolts first to make sure the still adjust.)  Just make them as tight as you can.  Install the main cable first, then with someone underneath holding pressure on the harness, crank up the main so you have about 18"-24" from the harness to the guide pulley for the main cable.  Then when you string the corner cables, you just make them as tight as you can by hand, and use the eye bolts to tighten from there.  Hope this helps.  If you need more help, e-mail me and I can get a little more specific.
