Portable Freezers?

Most of the PUs have the little three way fridge without the freezer unless you get a large Highlander or Centennial series Fleetwood or Starcraft.

I am curious on how well the portable freezers work.  Does anyone have any experience with some?

Thank for any info.

They work well, but the 12volt/propane versions are small inside for the overall size not to mention quite pricey. If you camp only with hookups even a dorm fridge can be turned down to become all freezer at a much lower cost.
We have folks that frreeze everything back the dorm fridge and run it for a couple of hours at home and drive for 8 hours and everything is still frozen solid when they setup.

We have one, it is an Engel 43 quart and it does work great. Ours is 120V and 12V it is heavy. We took it to the beach last year. I prechilled it at home and kept it plugged into the house electric until we were ready to leave and then plugged into the cigarette lighter plug in the back of the SUV while travelling. When we stopped for any length of time we unplugged and it still kept everything rock solid frozen. We would plug into shore power when we got to our site leaving it in the back of the SUV with the extension cord running through a crack in the window. This way we never had to leave our site to get food or anything. It worked out great for us. Being able to eat ice cream on the beach was great.

Last year I did see the Coleman Stirling portable fridge/freezer at Costco. They were under $400 and much lighter weight wise. Looked pretty nice. You can use it as a fridge overflow if you didn't want to use it as a freezer.

It looked like this.

Hope it helps.
