Hi all, just bought a Fleetwood Avalon (no AC) and the powercord has a data plate above it that says 110v 30 amp. I was going to purchase a EU2000i Honda generator but it doesnt push 30 amps. Will it still work?

The EU 2000i is rated at 2kw 16.7 amps.

I havent picked up the camper from te dealer yet but want to get the generator purchased beforehand.

Any guidance?

On a monster like that get the dealer to throw in the AC.  I know LDLP offers free AC upgrade in a package (I am assuming it is new).  That generator would be enough w/o the AC.  Go with a 3KW unit at a minimum if you get the AC.

The EU2001 will be plenty (without the AC). All you need is to get an adapter to go from the 30A plug on the cord to the 15A outlet on the generator.

I have a EU2000i and if I plug the AC directly into the generator, without going through the camper's controller and wiring, it will function fine (most of the time) but the generator will be completely maxed out and it may struggle a bit when the AC cycles. During cycling, it will draw a lot more amps for a short period of time. Most of the time, it's not a problem for the EU2000i but once in a while, it will shut down due to over-load. If I wait about 15 minutes and restart it, it runs fine for several more hours.

Other people have reported that the EU2000i will not run their AC at all. My feeling is, it has a lot to do with having exactly the correct amount of freon in the AC. Too much or too little freon will cause a high head pressure during compressor cycling (restarting) and will cause an undesirable surge of amperage to restart the compressor (JMO).

Worse case scenario, you buy 2- EU2000i generators and run them in tandem if AC is necessary during dry camping. The 2 generators are still lighter than 1 3000W generator and the cost is comparable. Also, when running without the AC (which is 90% of the time) you don't have to consume the unnecessary fuel that a 3000W generator demands.

I actually had 2 - EU2000i generators at one time. I found that I didn't need the 2nd one and sold it to my brother. I still have the wiring harness if anyone is interested in buying it.

Just my 2 cents.

BTW......................WELCOME TO PUT!!!! :D

I am saving my pennies for one of these YAMAHA EF 2400iS this generator will run anything you have even an A/C unit, plus it cost less then a Honda unit.
Hope you enjoy your new PU and make a lot of great memories.

If you can avoid using a microwave and heater at the same time (you in Arizona?) then that won't be a problem.  If you add A/C, then it might be a problem...

The Yamaha is a good generator too. A Friend of mine has one and he loves it.

It weighs about 75# as apposed to the 46# Honda EU2000i and used quite a bit more fuel.

The price per watt is about the same (incl S&H):

I actually paid $750 each for mine (2nd hand). They had about 20 hours each on them.

The Yamaha may be a better choice if you do a lot of dry camping and use the AC a lot. We each have our own individual needs. I personally much prefer the lighter EU2000i. It's much easier to move around. When not in use, I pick it up and put it under lock & key.
