Any ideas on how to secure the awning to the side brace pole to prevent flapping during windy times?

those de-flappers work ok but they're meant for the retractable awnings on self contained trailers, you have to do some strap wrapping on the pole to get the clamp to work properly. The last trip I used some velcro tabs on the side poles and the awning velcro stuck right to it and it was a quiet weekend.

I had a Viking popup with a Carefree Awning and they worked perfectly.
