...but I got a bonus bigger than any raise I've ever got.

Couldn't have come at a better time, with DD#2 planning a June wedding.

Austin (yep, still way overpaid...and not complaining)

Although I am due a raise, my boss gently let me know the other day that the bonus that is given is really a "raise".....hmmm...I would rather see that "bonus" given throughout the year, lol. However, since I work with the budget, the budgets look much better this time of year than they do at year end, lol. I wish they would consider half of the bonus as a true "bonus" and give us the other half as a raise. That way we have the extra money for Christmas or vacation, and the other half to deal with the raise in property taxes, etc.!!!

The only problem with a bonus instead of a raise is that future raises tend to be a percentage of your base salary (at least in my line of work.)

I did pretty well this year - got a 4.5% increase. It was supposed to be 3% across the board with an extra 1.5% available institutionally as merit pay. My boss doesn't believe in empowering an elite, privileged class, so, within our division, he gave that 1.5% out equally to all.
