Standby for lots of questions. Got a very lighty used camper, they said only 4 times and it's a 2005 model. Stored inside looks just like new. The owner did not help me much as he never used the hot water or fresh water or gray tank, outside bbq, or fridge  at all. And it has been winterized by the dealer, so there is some antifreeze in the system. Unfortunally for me the next several days, weeks and hopefully not months are going to be busy remodeling our house so, the camper is on the back burner for a while. I will have to set it up with the owners manual till I the the hang of it, and some of the manual is confusing. It referrs you to the manufactures instructions for the stove, axle, fridge, hot water heater, water pump, and these instructions mention several models of each and of course till it's set up I don't know whitch models I have. So like I said i'll be back with lots of questions........Shredder

Hey Shredder,

Congratulations on the new popup.  I just bought a new Jayco 1008 and am taking it on the maiden voyage this weekend.  Like the previous poster said, please feel free to email me with any questions.  One thing I found very helpful is a downloadable book called Checklists for RV'ers.  It have every checklist you would ever want and use the Setting Up your Popup one as opposed to the manual.  Jayco's manual leaves a LOT to be desired.  You can find it at http://rveducation101.com/detailedinformation.asp?ID=1426 . One change in the list is that Jayco says in the manual to put the stabilizers down before raising the popup.  A problem I encountered this past weekend when I set it up in the driveway was that the sink would not drain.  Turns out you may need a vent to help it along.  There are several solutions out there but a vertically mounted Y attachment with a short hose on one end may do the trick.  I should know after this weekend.  Good luck!

Here's a PU set-up checklist for you.....

PU Set-up Check List

1)   Back into site

2)   Level PU side to side before unhitching, (using Balance leveler or leveling blocks)

3)   Chock the wheels

4)   Unhitch, and pull away TV, then level PU front to rear using tongue jack.

5)   Release 4 roof latches, then raise roof half way, then unzip and take out canopy. Now
      finish raising roof.

6)   Now put stabilizers jacks down. (Caution: never raise or lower the roof with the
      stabilizer jacks down.

7)   Now set-up the canopy.

8)   Now pull out bed ends and put in bed supports on both ends.

9)   Set-up canvas on beds, (velcro ro bundgy cords). Dont put in bed bow supports yet.

10) Now pull out slideouts and set-up canvas (if applies to you)

11) Now lower and set-up door and secure canvas to door.

12) Now put in bed bow supports.

13) Now do electric, water and sewer connections.

14) Now time to turn on you water heater, fridge, etc. (if this applies to you)

15) Time to relax and enjoy!!!!

OK here's some questions. On my Jayco 1006 when you fill the water tank does that also fill the hot water tank? Are the two valves under the sink for supply and return for the hot water tank? On those valves is the pushed in position off, and pulled out on?  The camper has electric brakes, my ford escape has the trailer package, but apparently no wiring for the electric brake, only a flat 4 wire plug in, is it much a job to run to run an extra brake wire from the controler to the trailer, and a wire to charge the battery while in transit? Where would the hot wire originate from, and should it be fused? Thanks  Shredder

Is the Jayco manual wrong when it says to put the sabilizers down before cranking up the top? I did just that in my driveway and it went up fine.    Shredder

Yes the hot water tank will fill when you fill your water tank unless you have a hot water bypass kit installed. I'm not too sure about the 2 valves under the sink. As far as the wiring for the brake controller, i had my proffessionally done, i have a 7 wire plug on mine. If i were to do the wiring myself my TV would probably blow up!!!! I do have a charge line on mine, that way i can run the fridge off the battery when we're on the road and i dont have to worry about having a dead battery when we get to our destination.....If you have questions you can post them in the Fix It Forum also  for helpful tips.........

Shredder, for this i followed the Pop-Up 101 video's set-up. With the stabalizers down you can twist the frame of the PU so the roof might not go up right. If your interested inthe Pop-Up 101 video check out this site  http://rveducation101.com/
I bought it a few months before we got the PU so i could learn everything about my PU. I've watched it at least 30 times......Ed C.

It pays to read these post.  I have a 2000 jayco and for the past two years I have been puting down the stablizers first then lifting the top, for now on I will first put my top up, I havent had a problem yet but it makes alot of sense reguarding dammageing the lift system thanks for the education.

Shredder,

If you are comfortable with a multi-meter and basic hand tools, you can wire the 7 way plug, add the charge line and wire the brake controller in a day or less (depending on your skill level).  HERE is a link for a 4way to 7way converter.  You would wire your brake controller following the instructions that come with it.  That usually is a 4 wire hook up.  the brake wire on the controller would connect to the blue wire on the 7way plug.  to connect the charge line, connect via a relay to your battery's + post.  Fuses are never a bad idea and I would strongly recommend it.  If you connect directly to the + post(without the relay), you could possibly drain the starting battery in your TV while stopped.  If you use a relay and the trigger wire is only hot when the car is running, you will automatically disconnect power when you turn the car off and don't have to worry about coming back to a dead battery.

Good luck and let us know how things work out
