Rockwood Pop Up Repair

We own a 2000 Rockwood pop up and everytime we put the stabilizing jacks down, the metal on the side seperates and creates a gap about a 1/4 in wide.  I am concerned with water getting down there.  I have tried everything from caulking the crack to putting self tapping screws underneath the camper to hold the bottom piece up and nothing has worked so far.

Any other suggestions on how to fix this problem.  It actually looks like they cut the metal on the sides too short and they didn't leave enough material to allow for the frame to flex.
