I want to add a second propane tank to my  03 Jayco Qwest, but to do this i need to relocate my battery.  is there a problem with putting the battery inside the trailer?  this will also help secure the battery.  obviously i am new to pu camping, so any advice would be appreciated.

There are a few problems with locating the battery inside the trailer. That is not to say that it cannot be done, you just need to be aware of the hazards.

When the battery is being charged, it gives off gasses that can be explosive if they have an ignition source. These gases are also highly corrosive.

However, the bigger problem may be making sure that the battery is located in a safe place where it is absolutely impossible for someone to store objects on top of it. If you put the battery in a protective battery box (available at Walmart or any auto parts store) you are well on your way to being protected against something shorting across the battery posts.

If you do this, please be sure to secure the battery box so that it cannot move.

People store batteries on boats all the time. I had two huge 8D truck batteries (for house power) and 2 group 31 (starting) batteries on my boat. There were corrosion problems and I had an air blower that ran (venting dirty air overboard) while the engine was running.

Don't know what you tow vehilce situation is but for me I have a pick'em up truck. There's where I carry my extra propane tank when taking one. Made a wooden box for it and just fits snuggly.

I have thought about the second tank in the tv, but it is a suv.  my plan in sept. is to drive through central america with my wife, child, and dog, so a propane tank in the suv kind of scares me.  also if i leave the battery on the trailer i need a way to secure it against theft.

If you get a GEL or AGM type deepcycle there is no outgassing during charging.

You will also need to secure the trailer against theft.  A lock on the coupler won't do it.
