Hello all ..i purchased my 1st pup 1973 palimino last year and the previous owner said the roof had just been replaced...(looked good no cracked tears or anything) canvas was all good 1 small tear no problems.
300 bucks not a bad deal for its condition..shortly after buying it the roof started to bubble in 1 spot right in the middle..over time got bigger and bigger..the beginning of spring it gets windy here..notice the vinyl
on the roof had started to shrink  and tear and the wind blew it up..so answered my question ill just replace it..so tonight pulled the vinyl off and found my bubble for starters a peice of foam thrown over a small hole from hail
and just covered over the foam and all..the old roof under the "new roof" was aluminum(badly hail damaged)..MY question now is i am on a VERY tight budget so replacing the aluminum is out of the question can i replace it with rubber roofing and can i leave the old aluminum under it for a barrier what should i seal it with any ideas would be greatly appreciated

well, welcome to my nightmare. here's what we did with 1 silver dollared size hole and many, many pinholes.

Used a 2-part epoxy to patch the aluminum. Is this a possibility at all?

used a roll of duct dry--sort of a roll-on roofing tarpaper with shingle grit on the inside of the aluminum.

replaced all bracing--watersealed new boards and interior roofing--used sealed beadboard. Should have used marine grade plywood--but same budget issue.

then found a mobile home roofing paint to coat outside--supposed to help seal.

there is some plasticoat item or a roll-on rubber roof that was suggested--again, budget issue. If this works, it might be your best option. But, how bad is the waterdamage to the roof --mildewed or rotted?

By the way, don't feel too bad--we paid $500 for our version of this fixer-upper and drove 9 hours to pick it up. Okay, the laughter can stop now.

good luck--these people in Arvee Club will think of something.
