I have a 99 Westlake that stays out year round.  I just use Awesum Orange to clean it and it came out great.  Does anyone know if I could wax the sides that are metal painted, with something like turtle wax or something else

Thanks

i wouldnt use reg turtle wax if the paint is roughed up any.

YOu may end up with a green tint if the wax gets into the oxidized area where it stays green and give the paint a tinted look.

i wasn thinking of trying the turtle wax ice which is reportedly clear going on, so any extra doesnt cause discoloration..

Of course a more proper way might be for me to use compound to buff things smooth, then wax (my PuP is a 95 that has been outside)

Turtle Wax should work fine. Wash the camper well with a "Car Wash" soap first. Never use harsh detergents or anything with ammonia in it. Some of the citrus cleaners or Simple Green (diluted per instructions) work well. If there signs of oxidation, you may want to use a polish/cleaner before using the wax.

If there is heavy oxidation, you may want to lightly buff it out with a rubbing compound and a polisher (not a high speed buffer). If you get too aggressive, you may end up with no paint at all. :yikes:

I never had any luck waxing the metal sides of the camper.  I found some soft-scrub, a bristle brush and spray hose will clean it up nice.  It's recommended to clean it after each camping trip to remove any tree sap and other grit you may have accumulated camping.  The wax really doesn't apply well to the sides.  If you cover your camper and wash it down after camping it will look new year after year.

Using "Soft-scrub" may be the reason that you don't have much success with wax. That's pretty harsh stuff for that surface.
