If I didn't have plans already I would love to come up there and find out, but I am working during the week and camping the next 6 weekends.:)

I had a doctor's appt. in early December. Wrote a check for a little over $140. As of April, this check still hadn't cleared my account. So I started making calls. My doctor's office says their bank has a record of it being cashed. My bank has never seen it, and says that it couldn't have been cashed if it hasn't cleared. So I have dropped it. I stepped forward and tried to figure out the problem, but I think my bank has actually paid it and for some reason it has never been assigned to my checking account.

I've had at least 2 conversations with each side. For now, I still have the money. I guess at some point my bank will figure it out and subtract it from my account. And that's fine with me.

How far do you go to reconcile an error that was made in your favor?

Sounds like Tracy's more daring than I.  If I had a creel, I wouldn't have anything in it like you do, Gene.  I think I'll wait until July to find out.  Besides, school is still in session here, I think I'd like to keep my job.

I bought a pool table for our family for christmas. not a full size one - 6 1/2 ft with the ping-pong table conversion top - 199 on sale.

I got it home, but it sat in the garage for a week or so till we could get help to get it in the basement. my son and I couldn't lift it by ourselves.

the Week after Xmas, kids are out of school and a bunch of my son's friends come over (while I'm at work) to carry it down & put the table together.

Table won't fit around the corner and down the stairs.   kids ding up the walls (& the edges of the new pool table some) trying to get it downstairs.  So back in the garage it goes.

To get the table into the basement, I decide to re-install the back entry door that previous owners of our house had walled over - just opposite the basement door.  This will give us a straight shot into the basement, and better access to the backyard in summer. It's bugged me for 12 yrs that I can never get anything down the basement stairs, because they took out that door! So we buy a pre-hung exterior door at Menards, wait for a nice weekend in Jan, and install the new door one saturday, about 5-6 weeks after i bought the pool table.  the boys take it down on later that week, assemble it, call me to see.

But where's the Ping pong top? net & paddles?  The boys say they never saw them - they're not in the packing stuff. Call the store - they say they have an 'extra' - must've been a 2 box set and I only got one.  Pick it up and bring it home - it doesn't match. Different wood color, top is too small.   Measure the table - it's 7' long & cherry. Ping-Pong Top is 6 1/2 ft long and dark oak. Oops - I'm not missing a top - I've got the wrong table!

Back to the store with my receipt - tell them about the whole thing - do they want their table back? I'd be willing to pay the difference in price between the table I got and the one I paid for?  (knowing it's more, as it's a nicer, larger table, and knowing that the boys dinged up the edges trying to get it into the basement the first time.)  Do they want the ping-pong top that belongs to the other set back?

the cherry table is $399.  last sale price was $329.  it doesn't come with the P/P cover.  My receipt is correct, the tables are made by the same company, but different models. Apparently the warehouse didn't look carefully when they pulled the product from the shelf. No, they don't want me to bring back anything - they've already done inventory in Jan and adjusted their counts. no - they don't want me to pay the difference.  If I'm satisfied with what I've got, even tho the wood doesn't match exactly, I can keep it.  Just come back again, and sorry for the confusion.

So I got a $399 table for $199, plus a ping pong table top, paddles and net, etc.

I did have to put in a new entry door - but that was something I'd wanted to do for years, anyway. (and the 6" shorter table still would not have fit around the corner & down the stairs!)

Honesty DOES pay!

On the other hand - you're right about kids - they are NOT being taught that  today, and for most of them, it DOESN"T pay to be honest, as the dishonest ones aren't punished and no one cares.  My son has had calculators, and computer equipment stolen from him at school, his things have been deliberatly damaged, and  no one does anything to prevent or stop it.  It's very frustrating trying to teach HIM to be honest, when he constantly sees theft, vandalisim and deceit all around him and sees the culprits BRAG about it!

This is so true, Fly. The thing that worries me is thinking about what will come around to us as a nation when 70% of our young people admit that they cheat on tests and assignments in school. This has been the level for years now. Even teachers are cheating in some cases to inflate the test scores so their schools won't look bad.
