Propane "system" question

Hello everyone,

We recently purchased a used 1996 Coleman Key West camper.  We got a great deal on it and we can't wait to go camping!

Anyway for the past week I have been cleaning, scrubbing the camper.  This is my question...

The camper came with 2 propane tanks up front.  They are both full (one of the many added bonuses the previous owner threw in with this camper).  My question is this, once I am out of propane the two tanks on the front are the old style propane tanks.  You know a few years ago they changed all the old tanks to the new like three pronged handle type thing?

The propane lines that go from the camper to the tank are the old style as well.  Does anyone know of some kind of adapter that I could purchase that I could attach to make it work with the new tanks when I get them?

I went to campingworld.com and couldn't make sense of what that stuff was on there, I just thought I would throw it out here to see if anyone knew what was up...

It might be a little while before the time comes that I will need it, I would just like to know what I might be in for...

Thanks for your help!

The hoses you have will still work, you just need to use a wrench.  The newer tanks still have the inner threads your hoses use.

Now, new hoses will be MUCH easier to use.  The hoses can be replaced.  I have had better luck for LP parts at a gas grill company or an LP gas company that sells grills and such.

Now, your tanks are trash.  While replacement valves are avilable - they usually cost as much as a new tank.  Some folks have just "exchanged" an old style tank for a new one at WalMart, but most stores are catching on to this.

New empty tanks are available at Costco for about $17

Menards will also take trades - and many of them still take the old style ones.    this weekend (Memorial Day) they have a sale on, too - $14 something with a  $2 rebate!

I exchanged mine at Home Depot last year. No questions asked. I just told them I needed a new tank and that mine was empty. Enjoy the new-to-you camper!
