The 4.2  with the towing pkg is rated at 3500 lbs.  What can the 3.9 tow /what have you towed?

If I remember right camper dealer said same 3500, as I asked about ours when we purchased our Bayside. Says it would be pushing it, trailer tow pkg and you'd probably need the weight dist. also and sway bar and electric brakes. I just wanted to ask dealer and see what he had to say. If I was to use ours it would be for emergency only. I will never tow with a mid size vehicle... seen too many trannys and break-downs. They just aren't built for all that towing.

I understand both engines were offered with the tow package and capacities were the same.  The van w/tow package came with a larger transmission cooler and relays for trailer wiring pre-installed.  Without the tow package, both engine packages are rated at 2000 lb.

We have a 2005 w/3.9 w/o tow package.  We tow an older Coachmen that dry is 1200 lbs.  With the A/C that was added, stuffed packed in camper and TV, bikes on roof rack, etc. then we probably are a little over that 2000 lb limit.  I have considered adding a larger tranny cooler but have not yet but I change the oil after every long trip and tranny fluid about twice as often as recommended.  We also make sure to tow in drive unless conditions allow consistent driving in overdrive.
