We have a laptop that we generally bring on our camping trips.  We have DeLorme Map software and an Earthmate GPS receiver.  When going through new territory GPS can be priceless.  Other than that, we use it for notes on what we did, and an update on our evaluation of campsites.

We don't have WIFI.  Maybe someday.

I do - but I am on call 24/7 for problems that my clients may have (I own a computer network consulting business).  I take a trusty Sprint PCS data card with, so if there's Sprint cellular, there's Internet (for the most part).

:)

Oh and we use it for movies, too..

We are avid Geocachers and plan on taking the laptop with us to download cache info close to wherever we are camping.  Would also work if we are uploading cache info for caches we place.  B is a certified GPS instructor with her own business of teaching GPS and navigation skills (discoveringgps.com)

We also bring our laptop for movies when we travel to hotels, so I imagine that will carry over to PU as well (but only for rainy days/nights).

I like the idea of a journey log on the laptop as well, downloading pics from the digital as we go....hmmmm....must think on this some more... :)

We usually bring a laptop along.  The last time out the CG had WIFI.  The kids used it alot for music and what all.  The instant messaging was nice and they were sending pics to their friends.  We have an entertainment center in the van to watch movies on.  Nice, especially when it's hot and muggy out.  Like a mini mobile theater.

Never leave home without my laptop!  Too many occasions getting the right information at the right time is essential.  When pulling the PUP I am on the computer downloading routes on the GPS, listening to my thousands of MP3's or watching a movie while hubby is concentrating on driving.  Once in a campground and all set up, if there is WiFi, I will be on the laptop checking email, watching the weather or downloading pictures from the digital cameras and sending them to DD.  So much is available online now days that it is just not practical for hubby and myself to not take advantage of it.

I'm also a computer tech and work on computers daily for a living, but what good is all of that knowledge if you can't put it to work for you.
And yes, we do relax and have fun.  In fact, we have two PUP's, one smaller PUP for towing with the motorcycle and one larger PUP for towing with the SUV.  We've traveled in all 50 states and into Canada and the laptop is a part of the family and part of the fun.

We take my wife's laptop so the boys can watch DVDs while I drink martinis.
