Hello all, hopefully someone can help me here, I have a 1993 viking  sp190 and it's stuck, halfway up (or halfway down depends how you look at things) So I took out all the stuff in side so I could get a look at things, All the cables seem fine, If I pull on 1 cable then that corner moves and this works for all the corners. I later noticed that the cable is on the outside of the reel on the winch. But it cranks and doesnt catch anything? This confuses me.  My question is how to fix this. Is the cable rolled in the reel when the top is up or down? Anyone else ever run into this? Is there somekind of a sheerpin inside the winch that could have broke? Someone please point me in the right direction. It's suppose to rain thursday and I need to get it down before then.

First, make sure the crank handle is seated properly.  With ours, you can put the handle on and start cranking, but nothing happens.  There is a position where you can push it another inch on, then the handle will catch.

But from your description, I think you're way beyond that; I'm just covering one of the bases.

I haven't got a clew. I guess that it's something that one would have to see to diagnose. Hard to do in a forum like this. Although someone may come along with the correct answer.

If it were me, I think that I would cut some 2x4s about 6" longer that the current height of the top. I would lift the top on one end, by hand and have a helper put the 2x4s in that end. Then I would do the same on the other end.

That will take the tension off of the cables and give you the opportunity to figure this thing out. It would be very hard to do with tension on the cables.

Is the wench on the front of the camper? If so, MAYBE ... I said maybe ... look under the wench and you'll see a little locking doohickey that can be pushed in and engage the wench so you'll hear all the ratcheting sounds once again! More importantly, it will start to function once again!

Did the 2x4 thing today, (great minds think alike) The cable is all bound up on the outside of the winch, Not sure how it got there though, Anyways I started to untangel it but it got dark, I had to take the counter top off which I was trying to avoid but.... S*it happens.  Now I just need to figure out if the cable is wound when its up or when its down.  Thanks again for the tips guys you're all a great help.
