Dumping the fridge

Just wondering if anyone out there has similar feelings that the 1.9cu ft fridge is pretty much just taking up space that could be converted to cabinet storage.

While I've turned on the fridge the last four trips, we didn't actually put anything in it on the last three. I've got a really nice 120qt cooler that keeps things cold for four to five days and I'm debating ripping out the whole fridge and related plumbing so that I can have storage inside and outside where the controls are.

Anyone else done this? Thanks.

I love my fridge, and use it whenever I camp. Last year when it wasn't working properly I was worried about the cost of having to replace it. (Turns out I was able to repair it.)

Bottom line is, if you take it out I'm sure you could get some good money for it on e-bay. I haven't researched this, but it wouldn't surprise me if you could get in the neighborhood of $400 or $500.

We love our fridge.  We use it for meat, cheese, eggs, and most of our other food.  We also keep candy bars and drinks in it.  This keeps us from having to go outside to get drinks in the middle of the night.  I always take my food in a cooler and transfer it over when I get there.  I keep most of the meat frozen and freeze a few gatorades and waters, then throw them in a cooler.  That way everything stays cold without adding ice.  Then I load my other cooler with drinks and ice.  Another cool trick I use is to fill a two liter coke bottle with water and freeze it.  Before I leave on a trip I put the frozen bottle in the fridge.  When I get to the campsite the fridge is cooled down already.  An added bonus is the dog likes to drink the water from the bottle when it melts.  I guess he likes the familiar taste of water from home.  He may be spoiled I'm not sure.

I don't think you would get that much for a used fridge.  You can buy a new one for that price.

If you remove the fridge the opening will go from the inside to the outside vents.  It will give you access from either side, but it will also allow heat/cold into the camper.  You can leave it in place and use if for storage.  On some short trips I don't turn the fridge on, but use it for storage.:)
