Newbie here.

We're looking at a slightly used 2005 Rockwood Freedom 1640 LTD. Excellant condition. No AC or heat, no fridge, no stove. The only option installed is the Awning. But we like simple and desire to keep the price down. 90% of the time it will be just the wife and I camping and our trips will normally be 200 miles or less from our home. It's at a local dealer who sold it a year ago to a single lady and she just traded up to something bigger, fancier. They want $2900 for it & will be sure everything works properly.

I'd really appreciate you input, experience, and thoughts.

That sounds like a pretty decent deal to me (but what do I know  ). I'm not really familiar with that model. I mean....there are similar models for sale at much higher prices:

That's a Canadian ad so you would have to figure the exchange rate.

I'll bet if you went back and offered them $2500 with cash in hand, you'd own it.

Do you have a tow vehicle that is set-up and ready to tow it away.....if you do....you may want to act fast. A camper that new may not last long at that price, this time of the year. Sounds to me like they may just want it out of there quick.

When we started looking around at used popups we found out that anything decent went FAST.  Once place had 2 newer models in, stopped out a few days later and both were gone.

The ones that we found on dealer lots were typically older, spartan, beat, or all of the above.

I just bought a new 2007 Rockwood Freedom 1980 and have had it out twice.  Everything worked perfect.  My wife loves it!  (Important if you want to continue camping)  I paid about $6845.00 but has fridge, furnace, stove, rvq, awning, power lift, etc.  2900.00 sounds ok to me considering the shape you describe.  The fridge while cool is no biggie to me.  I use it as back up for my ice chest. (mainly drinks, condiments)  The furnace is nice, but you could buy a nice ceramic cube heater for about 70 bucks but need electric to run it.  Surprisingly, the option I like the best that I did not care at purchase time about was my electric roof fan/vent.  Works great!  Also, I had afew dealers offer to install some options at cost upon purchase.  you might check it out.  Last, check nada.com under rv,s to get a ballpark on the "book" value.
Good luck!
